First Night® Akron features festive food this season

Akron, Ohio -- In downtown Akron, the last night of 2007 will be filled with the arts, family, fun and FOOD!  With more than 30 restaurants and venues offering things to eat and drink, unique First Night dining options rise to the top of the list!

First Night Venues:
John S Knight Center: Inside the JSK Center is First Night’s regrets and resolution wall – but those are not the only regrets and resolutions First Night revelers can partake in.  Along with their existing food service, they will offer:
Last Regret: Chocolate Monton and Teardrop Lemonberry Zinger, two decadent desserts to end your New Year right!
Jump-start Resolution: Veggie Pita, a great way to start that healthy eating a few hours early.

Art Museum Jazzman’s Café: The culinary arts are featured at Jazzman’s café this year.  Along with a great menu of soups, salads and sandwiches, kids can decorate their own dessert.
Interactive Eats: Kids of all ages can try their hand at decorating their own First Night sugar cookies or rice crispy treats, with stations consisting of frosting, jam and sprinkles.

University of Akron Polsky’s Building: Spice it up while you celebrate the New Year!
Summit Bistro at Polsky:Wing in the New Year” with Spicy Buffalo Firecrackers
Starbucks at Polsky: Rejoice in the taste of a holiday Eggnog Latte

Downtown Restaurants:
Many downtown restaurants will be in the First Night spirit, featuring special First Night cuisine.
Appeteazers Waterside Deli: “Finish Your Year with the Best” with an all-beef Coney Island hot dog – the best around!
The Lockview: “Ring in 2008 with a Lockview Number 8” a goat cheese and roasted red pepper grilled cheese sandwich! 
Papa’s Food to Go: “Start Your First Night Right” with Papa’s Pulled Pork Sandwich
The Peanut Shoppe: “Crazy Cashews at the Nut House” and “Ring in your New Year with a Blast” California Mix
Street Treats: “Start Your Year Off Right” chicken sandwich
Trackside Grille at Quaker Square: Celebrate the night with a “Great ‘08 Cheeseburger”

Traditional New Year’s Faire will also be available:
St. John/St. Paul Lutheran Church: Pork and sauerkraut
Lock 3 Park: Authentic German cuisine, including bratwurst, sauerkraut and potato dumplings
St.  Bernard Church – Knights of Columbus: Italian sausage and polish sausage
Zion Lutheran Church: Chili, sauerkraut and sloppy joes
High Street Christian Church: Chili, nachos & cheese, soft pretzels and more
Shoppes at Akron Centre: Traditional food court items from Quizno’s, Renato’s Pizzeria and I.C. Sweets

First Night is family-friendly and alcohol free with entertainment packed into 21 downtown sites.  More than 30 visual and interactive art activities and 50 performing artists and groups, representing dance, theater, and music make the evening one you’ll never forget. Metro buses make it easy to stay warm while you see it all! They’ll transport your family and friends as you discover the magic of First Night.  The excitement will culminate when the Midnight Countdown Show begins at 11:30 p.m. featuring Cats on Holiday. Then kiss 2007 goodbye with a bang as the FirstMerit Fireworks display fills the sky to Today’s Best Music courtesy of 98.1 WKDD.

Admission to First Night Akron is a $10 button. Children under 10 years old are admitted free. Buy admission buttons online at www.firstnightakron.org until December 25.  Buttons are also available at all Acme Fresh Market stores and participating FirstMerit bank branches.
