First Night Akron is pleased to announce Nancy Wilson of Buckeye High School as the winner of the 7th annual First Night Idol competition.
Wilson was chosen as one of three top finalists for her rendition of “The Climb,” by Miley Cyrus, and won First Night Idol with the song “Crazy Dreams,” by Carrie Underwood in the final round.

Eight area high school students participated in the 7th annual First Night Idol competition from local high schools including Buckeye, Archbishop Hoban, East, Ellet, Springfield, Stow-Munroe Falls and St. Vincent-St. Mary.
Each year First Night coordinators search for the area's most talented high school students to take center stage on New Year's Eve at First Night Idol. This popular high school singing competition was held from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the John S. Knight Center on Thursday, December 31, 2009, one of the venues featured as part of Downtown Akron Partnership's First Night Akron 2010, the area's largest, family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration of the New Year through the arts.
Interested school districts can learn more about First Night Idol by calling 330-762-8555. Students who are interested in participating on December 31, 2010 should encourage their music teachers to get involved.
